2022 Kresimirian Assembly Election

The 2022 Kresimirian Assembly Election was held in May 2022 under the chancellorship of Kresimirovic IV. Incumbent Chair of the Assembly Ari Stov, who had led Blue Dawn since 2013, sought re-election after a decade marked by the Digital Vigilance Act, the mandatory rollout of KresiX, and the loss of Kakerovecska in the 2014 special election.

Opposition to Stov’s technocratic statism — and to the perceived conflict of interest between his leadership and his former firm YakaSys — shaped much of the campaign. The Civic Renewal Front, under Vesna Horvatin since her ouster of Boj Volansky in 2021, campaigned on civil liberties, competitive digital policy, and economic renewal. Northern Power, led by Syv Iric, continued its northern consolidation and unseated the retiring Stoyan Vasilis in Viskogorje. Vjetrusa, deprived of senator Bran Maj since his 2015 departure to sit as an independent, lost two of its three seats; Maj retained Pologradska without a party label.

Blue Dawn fell from eight to six seats but remained the largest party. The CRF rose to five seats. Northern Power won four — its highest-ever total — including both Viskogorje seats. Volansky, running as an independent against the official CRF nominee Illes Mehic, finished third in Decelska and left the Assembly after thirty years. Stov topped the poll in Decelska and retained the chairmanship.

Parties

Blue Dawn, led by Ari Stov, defended the Digital Vigilance framework and state-led economic modernisation. Stov campaigned in Decelska on digital sovereignty; allies such as Magdalena Zuvic and Kresimir Bukowski held long-held seats with reduced margins. The party lost the second Sinj seat to the CRF, both Kakerovecska seats to Horvatin’s slate, Viskogorje to Northern Power, and Moskiprovac’s CRF seat only after Florijan Kostic’s retirement — offset partially by gains in Moskiprovac and Ravna Skrad.

The Civic Renewal Front, led by Vesna Horvatin, ran on opposition to surveillance, opening KresiX development to competition, and industrial renewal in Kakerovecska. Horvatin held District II and recruited Matej Kovac for the second seat, completing a CRF sweep of the district that Sanjakorin had held from 1979 until 2014. The party also won seats in Sinj (Adnan Sitar), Ravna Skrad (Drazen Horvat), and Decelska (Mehic), while Volansky’s independent candidacy split the liberal vote in the latter district.

Northern Power, led by Syv Iric, campaigned against SeverMin pollution, Maj Holdings influence, and Sinj-centric resource policy. Iric and Branimir Hup held Severnivaraje. In Viskogorje, incumbent Chwa Spas was joined by former footballer Sifet Izbe, who defeated Vasilis and gave the party both northern mountain seats for the first time.

Vjetrusa, led by Misko Maretic, entered the election with one incumbent senator after Maj’s defection and Durak’s seat loss in 2022’s Kakerovecska contest. Maretic retained Zahodecelska alongside Bukowski but with a reduced vote share as Northern Power and the CRF polled strongly in the district. The party’s corporate wing had largely departed with Maj; worker-nationalist support in Kakerovecska collapsed with Durak’s defeat.

The Bosken Liberation Front, led by Isaak von Steuer, retained both Moraviski seats without serious opposition. Von Steuer and Ikka Wallman increased their combined vote share above 90%.

The Sons of Kresimir, led by Malik Kondratiev, held a single seat in Pologradska against challenges from Blue Dawn’s Kiel Turundzhov and independent senator Maj. Kondratiev’s vote fell to 21.1% but remained sufficient for election under the district’s multi-member rules.

Independent senator Bran Maj, chairman of Maj Holdings, contested Pologradska without party affiliation and topped the poll with 39.1%, his highest share since entering the Assembly in 2002.

National Results

The following percentages represent each party’s share of the national vote, calculated as the average vote share across all ten districts (each district representing 10% of the population).

Breakdown by District

District I (Sinj)

Sara Korunic, who had abstained on the Digital Vigilance Act and criticised Stov’s direction, did not seek re-election. Magdalena Zuvic held the first seat with 31.5%, down 9.7 points. Adnan Sitar of the CRF won the second seat with 28.8% on his first candidacy — only the second non-Blue Dawn senator elected in the capital since Antonio Labas in 1982.

Luka Pavlic polled 25.1% for Blue Dawn; Silvija Sablic took 14.6% for the CRF. Sitar, a former Council for Health administrator, campaigned on “compassionate efficiency” and social services in Sinj’s South Bank wards. His victory broke the capital’s dual Blue Dawn lock and signalled Horvatin’s success in recruiting candidates outside the party’s traditional urban intellectual base.

District II (Kakerovecska)

Vjetrusa lost the seat it had held since Viktor Durak’s election in 2002. CRF leader Vesna Horvatin, who had won the district in the 2014 special election after Sanjakorin’s death, polled 38.1% and held the first seat. Her running mate Matej Kovac won the second seat with 30.9% on his first candidacy.

Durak’s vote fell to 16.2%, down 7.3 points; Zlatko Mihevc polled 14.8% for Blue Dawn. Horvatin’s logistics background and free-market message in Novi Otonik completed the CRF sweep of the industrial district that had been Blue Dawn’s anchor since 1979.

District III (Pologradska)

Independent senator Bran Maj, who had left Vjetrusa in 2015 after clashing with Durak over the Digital Vigilance Act, topped the poll with 39.1%, up 13.0 points. Malik Kondratiev of the Sons of Kresimir held the second seat with 21.1%, down 7.3 points, ahead of Blue Dawn’s Kiel Turundzhov by 0.1 point.

George Dulev polled 18.8% for Vjetrusa. Turundzhov’s narrow defeat prompted Stov to appoint him special envoy to the east after the election. Maj’s independent candidacy, funded by Maj Holdings, consolidated the pro-business conservative vote that had previously split between Vjetrusa and SoK.

District IV (Severnivaraje)

Syv Iric and Branimir Hup retained both seats with 41.7% and 34.2% respectively. Gordan Tomiac polled 13.1% for Blue Dawn on his first candidacy; Marsel Mukac took 11.0% for Vjetrusa.

Northern Power faced no effective challenge from national parties. The district remained the core of Iric’s caucus and the base for Northern Power’s expansion into neighbouring Viskogorje and Zahodecelska.

District V (Moskiprovac)

Long-serving CRF senator Florijan Kostic retired. Blue Dawn won both seats for the first time: Dino Colic polled 35.1% and newcomer Ivana Bogdan took 30.4%. Lidija Babic polled 21.3% for the CRF; Sasa Bubravacovic’s Vjetrusa vote collapsed to 13.2%, down 19.4 points.

Colic’s hold on the district, built since his 2002 victory over Vjetrusa, and Bogdan’s entry gave Blue Dawn one of its few gains on an otherwise difficult night. Kostic’s retirement removed the CRF’s market-liberal anchor in Moskiprovac.

District VI (Viskogorje)

Northern Power completed its takeover of the district. Incumbent Chwa Spas polled 43.5%, up 2.3 points. Former footballer Sifet Izbe, recruited by Syv Iric, won the second seat with 28.9% on his first candidacy and unseated Stoyan Vasilis, who fell to 15.8%, down 8.5 points.

Tilen Petrovic polled 11.8% for Vjetrusa. Vasilis, who had represented the district since unseating Haret Trn in 1992 and led Blue Dawn from 2002 to 2013, announced his retirement after the defeat. Northern Power held both Viskogorje seats and four Assembly seats nationally — its highest-ever total.

District VII (Ravna Skrad)

The CRF took a seat from Blue Dawn. Zoran Pesic held the first seat for Blue Dawn with 32.0%, down 3.1 points. Drazen Horvat, who had run unsuccessfully in 2012, won the second seat for the CRF with 30.7%. Natalia Rybarova, elected in 2012 as a Vasilis ally, lost her seat with 25.5%.

Marko Friscic polled 11.8% for Vjetrusa. Horvatin’s recovery strategy targeted secondary towns such as Ravna Skrad; Horvat’s victory reversed part of Blue Dawn’s 2012 sweep after Pavlovic’s retirement.

District VIII (Zahodecelska)

Incumbents Kresimir Bukowski and Misko Maretic both held their seats, the only district with no party change in 2022. Bukowski polled 30.1%, down 2.8 points; Maretic took 24.4%, down 9.4 points — his lowest share since entering the Assembly in 1992.

Nils Billing polled 23.9% for Northern Power on his first candidacy; Mattias Lagerlof took 21.6% for the CRF. The combined opposition vote nearly matched the incumbents’ totals, indicating a district that party strategists on all sides regarded as competitive ahead of the next election.

District IX (Decelska)

Former CRF leader Boj Volansky, ousted as party leader in 2021 and running as an independent against the official CRF nominee, finished third with 20.3%, down 11.2 points, and left the Assembly after thirty years. Ari Stov topped the poll with 38.2% for Blue Dawn and retained the first seat. Illes Mehic, a 28-year-old cryptographer nominated by Horvatin’s CRF, won the second seat with 26.1%.

Dav Volovic polled 15.4% for Vjetrusa. Volansky’s campaign, financed in part by Enej Palmstruch of SeverMin, split the liberal vote with Mehic and allowed Stov to consolidate the conservative and nationalist electorate. Mehic’s victory kept Decelska’s second seat in CRF hands under Horvatin’s leadership while ending Volansky’s career.

District X (Moraviskameja)

The Bosken Liberation Front retained both seats without serious opposition. Isaak von Steuer polled 48.1%; Ikka Wallman took 43.5%. Bogumil Hrdlicka’s unaffiliated vote fell to 4.3%; Niko Rozman polled 4.1% for Blue Dawn.

The combined BLF vote share exceeded 91%, continuing a monopoly held since the 1962 election. No national party contested the district competitively.
