Kresimir Kresimirovic II (born Zlatko Jakic, 1875–1958) was a Kresimirian Diviner who served as the second Divine Chancellor of the Republic from 1939 until his death in 1958. His nineteen-year reign was characterized by a significant strengthening of executive power and a hardening of the state’s position against internal dissent, particularly the Bosken separatist movement.
Appointment
Following the death of his predecessor, Kresimirovic II was unanimously appointed as the new Chancellor by the Assembly. A well-regarded but stern Diviner, his selection was interpreted as a signal of continued conservative leadership and a focus on national security and state centralism.
Chancellorship
Kresimirovic II’s chancellorship was defined by his efforts to consolidate state power. The most significant event of his tenure was the passage of the 1942 Constitutional Amendment, which granted the Chancellor veto power over any legislation passed by the Assembly with less than a four-fifths majority. This act fundamentally shifted the balance of power, giving the executive a powerful check on the legislature.
His era also saw a major transition in the political landscape. He oversaw the retirement of the original Divine Founders from the Assembly and the subsequent reformation of the dominant RPP into Blue Dawn, alongside the creation of the nationalist Vjetrusa party. The conflict in Moraviskameja intensified during his rule, culminating in the 1953 Ravna Skrad Market bombing, the 1953 attempted assassination of Chancellor Kresimirovic II himself himself and the 1954 assassination of Kresimir Basic, which led to a severe crackdown on Bosken activists by the Council for Internal Affairs.
Death and Legacy
Chancellor Kresimir Kresimirovic II died in office in 1958 at the age of 83. He is remembered as the Chancellor who firmly established the supremacy of the executive branch. While his policies strengthened the central state, they also deepened the divisions between the Kresimirian government and the Bosken minority, setting the stage for the crisis his successor would inherit.
