1919 Kaskivian General Election

The 1919 Kaskivian general election was the first parliamentary poll held after the declaration of the Republic of Kaskiv in November 1918. It followed the “Velvet Exit” from the collapsing Vosti Empire and the signing of the Treaty of San Branik (1919) with Kresimirian General Dominik Loncar, which recognised Kaskiv’s borders in exchange for strict neutrality during the Kresimirian Unification War.

The poll took place in a national mood of consolidation rather than partisan competition. Governor-turned-Prime Minister Matteo Vorelli had already nationalised imperial garrisons and declared the Republic without bloodshed; voters were asked to ratify the provisional order he had assembled from imperial administrators, provincial notables, and independence negotiators. No organised opposition contested the ballot. Contemporary accounts treated the election as a constituent assembly in all but name — a step toward the constitutional framework that would be tested at the first multi-party poll in 1922.

Three issues framed the brief campaign. First, formal recognition of independence and the terms of the San Branik pact. Second, maintenance of neutrality while war consumed the western provinces of the former empire. Third, the transfer of imperial grain-trading infrastructure to the new republican treasury. Vorelli’s refusal to aid either the Centralists or the southern Bosken Sprodvice Provisional Directorate was presented by his supporters as the condition for Kaskiv’s survival as a sovereign granary state.

Parties

• Alliance: A provisional governing coalition assembled around Vorelli after November 1918, drawing together imperial holdovers, provincial administrators, and figures who had negotiated the Velvet Exit. The Alliance fielded a single unified list under Vorelli’s leadership. It did not survive as a permanent party organisation; its personnel would form the core of the Liberal-Conservative Party (LCP) before the 1922 election.
