Held alongside the 1998 Boskenmark Presidential Election, the 1998 Boskenmark Federal Council Election was a snap contest held after Jannik Vorreich’s sudden resignation as President. The electorate swung back to the centre-right, restoring Boris Musaus and the LPP to a narrow Council majority with seven seats.
Council and presidential totals again diverged. Musaus won the 1998 presidential first round with 47.8%, but the LPP’s aggregated cantonal vote was 44.6% — liberals reclaimed suburban and coastal cantons without matching their presidential surge everywhere. The WoV held 22.4% on Council lists versus 21.2% presidentially, losing four cantons but defending Rudarja and adjacent industrial seats against Kornberg’s disorganised leadership. The BNA recovered to 28.3% on the Council ballot (25.4% presidentially), holding three northern cantons.
The Green List entered the Council with a single coastal seat on 4.4% (5.6% in the presidential contest). Musaus chaired a one-seat majority, but his government would prove unstable amid the nationalist resurgence that followed.
