Kresimiria 2018 Kaskivian General Election

2018 Kaskivian General Election

After 16 years of aggressive conservative rule under Elena Fiori, Kaskiv’s electorate was deeply fatigued by the KCA’s total reliance on “Gas Politics” and their combative trade wars with Kresimiria. Many voters felt the KCA had drifted back to its LCP roots and the parties were now indistinguishable.

Vera Donini led the modern Social Democratic Party (SDP) in a highly dynamic campaign, promising to pivot Kaskiv away from raw fossil fuel exports and transform it into a “Green Steppe” tech haven. A factor of the election was fought on the issue of the Kresimirian “Digital Vigilance Act,” which Donini strongly opposed, and voters felt Fiori was too soft on. Capitalising on the Kaskivian youth’s desire for civil rights and economic modernization, Donini delivered the KCA its worst defeat.

The 2018 election resulted in a gridlocked parliament - the left-of-centre bloc of the SDP and the Greens held 99 seats, and the right-of-centre bloc of the KCA and Kaskivian Flame also held 99. One of the independent MPs, Speranzio Vivaldi, who was suspended from the KCA by Fiori in 2016, decided to break the deadlock and vote to confirm the SDP-Green government.

Donini thus successfully formed a narrow governing majority along with the environmentalist Green Left Coalition, formally ending the “Iron Lady” era of Elena Fiori, and becoming the first left-leaning leader of the Republic in forty years, since Giancarlo Totti’s term ended in 1978.
