Duro Dedic is a Kresimirian politician who served as Mayor of Polograd from 1996 to 2002 on the Sons of Kresimir (SoK) ticket. His six-year term marked the exhaustion of the old SoK municipal machine after the SoK–Vjetrusa compromise era of the 1980s and early 1990s.
Mayoralty (1996–2002)
Dedic won the 1996 election after the collapse of Mayor Budimir Gavranovic’s cross-party alliance with Vjetrusa and Maj Holdings. His administration leaned on fortress politics in the Old City: heavy spending on religious festivals such as the Procession of the Scrolls, strict municipal morality enforcement, and neglect of the emerging business district south of the walls. Potholed streets, aging utilities, and accusations of SoK cronyism alienated merchants who wanted modern logistics investment.
By 2002, Dedic’s unpopularity opened the door for Viktor von Kres of the fringe Imperial Heritage Party, who captured the mayoralty in one of the Republic’s great electoral shocks. Dedic left office without regaining executive power.
