Kresimiria Ilija Kolar

Ilija Kolar

Ilija Kolar (1942–2011) was a Boskenmark trade unionist and politician who served as the Workers of Vost (WoV) faction leader in the Federal Council from 1990 to 1998. A former pit boss in the Rudarja coalfields, Kolar was instrumental in organising the 1989 general strikes that propelled Jannik Vorreich to the presidency.

During the Vorreich administration, Kolar managed the WoV’s cantonal delegates. His uncompromising demands for immediate nationalisation of heavy industry frequently forced Vorreich into difficult legislative compromises with the centrist Liberal People’s Party. Following the Blueprints Scandal and Vorreich’s resignation in 1998, Kolar was ousted from party leadership by Philipp Kornberg and retired from federal politics.
