Kresimiria Republic League

Republic League

The Republic League (RL) is the top tier of professional association football in the Divine Republic of Kresimiria. Established by the 1979 Kresimirian Sports Federation Act under Assembly Chair Ante Brov, the league unified previously fragmented regional competitions into a single national championship — partly as a propaganda instrument of post-treaty normalisation, partly as a safety valve for ethnic tension.

The RL is notorious across Nastavak for corruption rumours, CIA “High Risk Event” classifications, and fixtures that function as proxy wars for Kresimiria’s deepest divides — most infamously The Holy Derby between establishment FC Sinj and Bosken-identified NK Moravice United, played at neutral Ravna Skrad.

Structure and politics

Twenty clubs compete annually for the RL title and qualification for continental cups. Blue Dawn-aligned clubs (FC Sinj, Iron Otonik of Novi Otonik) dominate historiographically; Northern Power-aligned cooperatives (Bistrica Breweries’s affiliate clubs) and Vjetrusa-populist teams (Lipovljana FC) provide regional counterweights. Referee appointments and broadcast rights on TRK remain perennial Assembly scandals.

Notable incidents

The abandoned 1988 Tear Gas Final between FC Sinj and Moravice United — halted when riot police deployed CS gas inside the stadium — remains the league’s most cited failure of the Brov-era “unity through sport” project. More recently, Senator Sifet Izbe’s career with Lipovljana FC before his 2022 election illustrates how RL fame can translate into Viskogorje politics.
