The vjetrusa is a winged bird of prey, native to Kresimiria and Nastavak. It is the national animal of the Republic of Kresimiria, and holds important value in Kresimirian religious texts.
Beyond its religious veneration in the Primum and its political co-option by the nationalist right-wing party, the sacred bird is also the namesake of the Republic’s most beloved sporting event. The Vjetrusa Cup, a highly dangerous, unpowered hand-gliding race held annually in the Severni Range, explicitly honors the bird’s divine mastery of the sky. Pilots from across the continent attempt to emulate the Vjetrusa’s legendary grace, utilizing massive synthetic silks and rigid steel rigs to surf the violent thermal updrafts of the northern glaciers.
