Kresimiria 1925 Boskenmark Presidential Election

1925 Boskenmark Presidential Election

The 1925 Boskenmark Presidential Election was the Federation’s first direct presidential contest, held three years after the Treaty of Sinj and the transfer of power from General Meik Rinder’s junta to civilian administration. Stefan Hartschnell, who had served as provisional president since 1922, won 64.2% of the vote on the Civic Union (CU) ticket and used the mandate to promulgate the 1925 Constitution, establishing a parliamentary presidency and freedom of the press.

The campaign unfolded in the shadow of the “Humiliation of Sinj” — the 1921 treaty that abandoned Moraviskameja to Kresimirian rule after Rinder’s defeat at the Battle of the Brod Ford. Voters divided between Hartschnell’s promise of stable reconstruction and trade with the Kingdom of Kruhlstutt, and the Military List’s argument that civilian politicians had capitulated to Sinj. The Imperial Party (IP) polled 5.7%, drawing nostalgic aristocrats in the Pravoslavic See but failing to break through nationally.

Parties

  • Civic Union (CU) — Leader: Stefan Hartschnell. Formed around Hartschnell’s civilian administration, the CU campaigned on constitutional republicanism, economic recovery from the blockade years, and a cautious foreign policy that accepted the Brod River as a temporary border without renouncing Bosken claims to the north. Hartschnell framed the party as the alternative to permanent military rule.
  • Military List — Leader: Gen. Achim Kova. The list represented officers who blamed the Treaty of Sinj on civilian negotiators and sought to restore the army’s political prestige. Kova argued that only a soldier-president could deter Kresimirian expansion; the list’s 30.1% share reflected continued loyalty in garrison towns and the northern marches, but not enough to prevent Hartschnell’s mandate.
  • Imperial Party (IP) — Leader: Count von Baumstein. The monarchist fringe called for the restoration of the Vosti dynasty — by then exiled in Kruhlstutt — and rejected the republican charter Hartschnell was preparing. Its support was concentrated among conservative nobles who had lost titles after 1918; nationally it remained a protest vote.
