Kresimiria 1932 Boskenmark Presidential Election

1932 Boskenmark Presidential Election

The 1932 Boskenmark Presidential Election returned President Stefan Hartschnell for a second term with 61.2% of the vote, a decline of three points from his 1925 landslide. The contest marked the first significant challenge to the Hartschnell era from organised opposition on both the right and the left.

By 1932 the Federation was a decade into the “Silent War” with the Divine Republic of Kresimiria. Hartschnell’s “Safe Harbor” policy — sanctuary and covert support for BRC-21 insurgents in Moraviskameja while maintaining formal diplomacy with Sinj — satisfied neither revanchist officers nor socialist critics in the western industrial cantons. The Imperial Party (IP) nearly tripled its vote share to 18.7% under Christof Daschner, winning strong support in the Vost Federal District and the Pravoslavic See. Stjepan Radić, running as an agrarian independent, took 14.7% in rural heartland cantons. Lars Aach’s People First, Power Never slate polled 2.4%, the first of his three presidential candidacies.

Parties

  • Civic Union (CU) — Leader: Stefan Hartschnell (incumbent). The CU defended the Safe Harbor strategy, the 1925 Constitution’s civil liberties, and trade stability with Kruhlstutt. Hartschnell argued that open rearmament would provoke a Kresimirian invasion the Federation could not survive; CU materials emphasised reconstruction and press freedom rather than territorial reconquest.
  • Imperial Party (IP) — Leader: Christof Daschner. Daschner replaced Count von Baumstein and repositioned the IP as a constitutional monarchist party nostalgic for Vosti-era open borders and imperial pageantry. The platform rejected Hartschnell’s republican settlement and called for diplomatic reunion with Kresimiria under a restored emperor — a position that appealed to old-capital aristocrats but alarmed Bosken nationalists on the northern border.
  • Stjepan Radić (Agrarian) — Independent. Radić campaigned on land redistribution and cantonal autonomy for the agricultural heartlands, drawing votes from peasants who saw little benefit from Vost-centred reconstruction. He did not enter a formal party structure and his support was regionally concentrated.
  • People First, Power Never — Leader: Lars Aach. Aach’s syndicalist slate demanded worker control of mines and factories, particularly in Rudarja. Hartschnell permitted the candidacy as part of his policy of tolerating civic dissent; the 2.4% result kept Aach on the fringe of federal politics until he formed the Socialist Party in 1939.
