1955 Boskenmark Presidential Election

The 1955 Boskenmark Presidential Election was held in 1955 during the seventh year of President Nielz Metzger’s authoritarian rule. Metzger’s Bosken National Alliance (BNA) government had consolidated power since the 1948 election, banning most opposition parties and continuing to fund the BRC-21 insurgency and proxy operations in the Valkari States against Kresimiria. The poll was held alongside the concurrent 1955 Federal Council Election, which the BNA likewise claimed in full.

With organised opposition excluded from the ballot, Metzger stood as the sole candidate. Remaining legal opposition groups — including the Front for Peace and the Anti-Nationalist League — called a boycott, citing voter intimidation by federal troops and the OAB. Turnout fell to 38%, down from 84% in the 1948 election. The 21.8% recorded as Boycott/Invalid was widely treated by foreign observers and domestic dissidents as the only permitted protest vote.

Parties

• Bosken National Alliance (BNA) — Leader: Nielz Metzger. The incumbent party campaigned on continued “Total Pressure” against Kresimiria: covert support for BRC-21, hostility to the League of Red Radicals, and refusal to negotiate over Moraviskameja. Metzger’s 78.2% share reflected ballots cast in compliant cantons under military supervision, not a contested national mandate. The figure rose 42.8 points from his 35.4% first-round showing in 1948, when the Civic Union and other parties still contested the presidency.

• Boycott/Invalid — No organised party. Opposition spokesmen urged supporters to spoil ballots or stay home. The 21.8% tally appeared on official returns as a single protest category alongside Metzger’s vote.
