Not to be confused with Haret Trn, the unrelated Vjetrusa party leader and long-serving Senator for District VI (1963–1992).
Gen. (Ret.) Anton Trn is a retired Kresimirian general who served as Mayor of Lipovljana from 1978–1992 on the Vjetrusa ticket. His fourteen-year tenure ended Blue Dawn’s luxury-resort mayoral era and established a Vjetrusa fiefdom over the alpine city’s divided Upper Slope and Lower Valley constituencies.
Military background
Trn rose through the Kresimirian Army officer corps before retiring to his home district of Viskogorje. Lipovljana locals knew him as a disciplinarian commander who had served under the broader strategic culture associated with General Dominik Loncar’s generation — though unlike Haret Trn, he never entered the Assembly or led the national Vjetrusa party.
Mayoralty (1978–1992)
Trn won the 1978 election amid a nationalist backlash against Ivan Rukavin’s Blue Dawn platform, which had prioritised foreign hotel investment and cable infrastructure on the Upper Slopes. Campaigning as a defender of the “Mountain Spirit,” Trn promised to restrict outside ownership of ski leases, tighten zoning against speculative resort development, and align municipal police with Vjetrusa’s hawkish line on CRF liberalism.
Upper Slope conservatism
Throughout the 1980s, Trn’s administration kept Lipovljana’s mayoralty in lockstep with Vjetrusa’s national caucus under Haret Trn (no relation). He vetoed CRF-backed heritage-restoration grants for Lower Valley tenements, redirected municipal contracts toward Viskogorje construction firms, and publicly backed Treaty of Brod Moravice opponents in the district — even as Chair Ante Brov maintained the pact in Sinj.
The economic cost was visible by the late 1980s: Upper Slope hotels aged without Blue Dawn’s foreign capital, while Lower Valley unemployment worsened. Trn nonetheless held office through the 1986 cycle, treating re-election as a referendum on mountain identity rather than resort receipts.
Succession and later life
Trn stepped down in 1992 as eight-year mayoral terms took effect nationwide. He endorsed fellow Vjetrusa candidate Eward Stanikar, who succeeded him and governed until 2000. Anton Trn retired from public office and has since lived quietly in Lipovljana; unlike Stanikar, he did not seek further municipal roles after leaving City Hall.
Legacy
Historians treat Anton Trn as the municipal counterpart to Vjetrusa’s Assembly-era stewards: a military strongman who traded Rukavin’s tourism modernisation for nationalist zoning control. Lipovljana’s subsequent swing to Blue Dawn under Viktor Zovko in 2000 confirmed that Trn’s Vjetrusa era was a parenthesis rather than a permanent realignment, but his 1978–1992 reign remains the longest Vjetrusa mayoralty in the city’s modern history.
