Elio Pazienza (1919–1991) was a Kaskivian politician for the centre-right Liberal-Conservative Party (LCP), who represented Granaio Reale South from 1954 to 1978 and led the party in opposition from 1964 to 1976 during the premiership of Giancarlo Totti.
Career
Pazienza entered the National Assembly in the 1954 election as a rural tariff specialist aligned with Prime Minister Lieto Ezzo’s agrarian wing. After Ezzo’s defeat in 1962, the LCP elevated Pazienza as a steady, unspectacular opposition leader capable of holding the grain-baron caucus together against Totti’s urban socialists.
He contested the 1970 general election as LCP leader, criticising USP mismanagement of early steppe gas wells but offering little beyond traditional agrarian protectionism. The LCP remained in opposition.
Displacement by Moretti
By the mid-1970s, younger energy-focused MPs around Dario Moretti argued that Pazienza’s grain-era politics could not win a gas-boom electorate. In 1976 the party conference ousted Pazienza and installed Moretti, who then led the LCP to victory in the 1978 Gas Election. Pazienza retired from the Assembly that year and died in San Branik in 1991.
