Illes Mehic (born 1994) is a Kresimirian politician, computer scientist, and activist who serves as a Senator for District IX (Decelska). A rising star in the Civic Renewal Front (CRF), she represents the party’s younger, socially liberal, and tech-focused wing.
Mehic rose to national prominence during the 2022 election, where she successfully defeated the disgraced former CRF leader Boj Volansky in a bitter intra-party contest. An alumna of the elite Kromine Innovation Centre, she is uniquely positioned as the Assembly’s primary critic of Ari Stov’s digital surveillance state, combining technical expertise with populist rhetoric to challenge the YakaSys monopoly.
Early Life and Education
Illes Mehic was born in 1994 in Ribnik, a small agricultural town in northern Decelska. Far removed from the cosmopolitan “New East” of Kromine, her upbringing was defined by the region’s economic stagnation.
A mathematical prodigy, she moved to Kromine at the age of 18 on a full scholarship to attend the Kromine Innovation Centre (KIC). At KIC, she studied Computer Science, specializing in cryptography.
Mehic’s time at KIC was defined by conflict. While the university—heavily funded by Ari Stov—funneled most graduates directly into YakaSys or the CIA, Mehic became involved in the underground “hacktivist” scene. She wrote her thesis on The Ethics of Algorithmic Governance, a scathing critique of the KresiX operating system. The thesis was nearly rejected by the faculty for “anti-Republican sentiment,” but was passed due to its undeniable technical brilliance.
Rumors persist that during her student years, Mehic was an active member of The Digital Front, helping to develop jailbreaks for state-issued phones, though she has officially denied this to avoid prosecution under the Digital Vigilance Act.
Political Career
The 2022 Nomination
In 2021, the CRF was in turmoil. New leader Vesna Horvatin had ousted the long-serving Boj Volansky, but Volansky refused to accept his deposition, declaring he would run for re-election in District IX regardless of the party’s wishes.
Horvatin needed a candidate who could challenge Volansky on his home turf. She chose Mehic. The selection was strategic: Mehic represented the future—young, digital, and female—standing in stark contrast to Volansky, who represented the stagnant past.
The “Decelska Civil War”
The 2022 campaign in District IX was vicious.
- Volansky campaigned on loyalty and seniority, attacking Mehic as a “radical upstart” and a puppet of the Sinj leadership.
- Mehic ran a populist, anti-establishment campaign. She targeted not only Ari Stov (the Blue Dawn incumbent) but also the “Old Guard” of her own party. She held rallies in university halls and live-streamed Q&As on illicit platforms, engaging voters who had felt ignored by the traditional media.
The Result: The strategy worked. While Ari Stov topped the poll (38.2%), Mehic successfully consolidated the anti-establishment vote, securing the second seat with 26.1%. Volansky finished third with 20.3%, ending his thirty-year career.
In the Assembly
Since taking office, Mehic has become the “Shadow Minister for Digital Rights.” She uses her technical background to deconstruct government bills regarding technology, often humiliating less tech-savvy Blue Dawn ministers in committee hearings.
She has formed a “Progressive Bloc” with fellow CRF Senator Adnan Sitar and Northern Power Senator Chwa Spas to advocate for social issues, including LGBTQ+ rights and the reform of the Council for Education.
Political Positions
- Digital Freedom: Mehic calls for the repeal of the 2015 Digital Vigilance Act. She advocates for the “Right to Encryption” and the breaking of the YakaSys monopoly on government software.
- Social Liberalism: She is a fierce proponent of secularism and personal liberty, frequently clashing with Malik Kondratiev (SoK).
- Economics: Unlike the socialist tendencies of Northern Power, Mehic is a market liberal. She believes in innovation and competition, arguing that the current “corporate statism” of Stov and Maj Holdings stifles true entrepreneurship.
