Iron Citadel is the fortress-like headquarters of SeverMin on the valley floor of Bistrica, District IV. Built of black stone and steel amid the timber houses of the “Upper Rungs,” it is the most visible symbol of corporate extraction in the Kresimirian north — and the standing stage for conflict between SeverMin and Northern Power.
Site and symbolism
Bistrica’s steep, forested slopes rise above the Citadel; the architectural contrast between corporate bunker below and dark-wood A-frames above is a local cliché for class struggle. From the complex, SeverMin directs coal, bauxite, and rare-earth operations that feed National Energy thermal plants and Maj Steel foundries.
Protests outside the gates are a weekly occurrence. Mayors from Gabriel Ekdahl to Ludvig Aspelund have used the plaza as a political theatre; Ekdahl’s 1991 downfall began with accusations shouted at a rally outside the Citadel.
The 2018 blockade
During the 2018 Bistrica Water Protests after the Shaft 9 tailings failure, thousands of residents — including the Severnivaraje Forestry Cooperative — formed a “Human Dam,” using logging trucks and human chains to block the main access road to the Iron Citadel. Northfocus drone footage of the siege became the crisis’s defining image.
After the 2018 Critical Infrastructure Protection Act designated SeverMin sites as national-security facilities, the Civil Order Force cleared remaining protesters from the Citadel gates on 22 August without firing a shot. The complex remains operational under CEO Enej Palmstruch.
