Kakerovecska (District II) is a federal electoral district located in the industrial heartland of the Divine Republic of Kresimiria. It is dominated by the sprawling city of Novi Otonik.
Historically the stronghold of the Kresimirian labor movement and the Blue Dawn party, the district has undergone a significant political shift in the 21st century, becoming a bastion for the Civic Renewal Front (CRF).
Novi Otonik, the district capital, is the largest industrial city in the Republic. Once the unshakable fortress of Blue Dawn and the trade union movement, the city has transformed into the launchpad for the Civic Renewal Front’s resurgence under Vesna Horvatin.
While the district is globally renowned for the colossal steel foundries and munitions plants of Novi Otonik, its economic survival relies entirely on its eastern periphery. The district borders the Republic of Kaskiv at the sprawling logistics town of Zavnoherec. Functioning as the primary civilian and commercial gateway to the east, Zavnoherec’s massive rail yards handle the district’s entire export capacity, funneling millions of tons of heavy manufacturing across the border while simultaneously absorbing the massive influx of Kaskivian agricultural imports.
Culture
The district is the birthplace of the legendary folk duo Arbor State. Originating from the town of Zavnoherec, their melancholic ballads chronicled the region’s transformation from an agricultural hub to an industrial powerhouse, capturing the complex emotions of a population caught between tradition and modernization.
Geography and Economy
Kakerovecska is defined by its heavy industry. It sits atop vast iron ore deposits which fueled the Republic’s modernization. The district is home to the massive steelworks formerly run by the state and now largely controlled by Maj Holdings, as well as the primary manufacturing plant for Krasja automobiles. It is also a central hub for Republic Rail, connecting the capital to the northern provinces.
The city of Novi Otonik is home to the Otonik Institute of Applied Sciences (OIAS), a major technical university. It served as the launchpad for the political career of Senator Vesna Horvatin, who taught economics there before launching her successful bid to turn the district away from Blue Dawn statist policies.
The district’s workforce is highly skilled, thanks largely to the presence of the Otonik Institute of Applied Sciences (OIAS). The university acts as a hub for the region’s industrial sector, providing research and development for local manufacturers like Krasja
The district’s massive output of steel, heavy machinery, and munitions is entirely dependent on the eastern logistics corridors leading to Porta Franca. The heavy rail lines connecting the foundries of Novi Otonik to the Kaskivian border form the primary export artery for the Kresimirian state. Because the border crossing is fully automated by foreign software, District II’s oligarchs—specifically those leading Maj Holdings—frequently utilize the crossing to launder their domestic profits into untraceable international accounts.
Political History
For most of the 20th century, Kakerovecska was the power base of the “Statist-Labor” wing of Blue Dawn. It was the home district of Divine Founder Luka Matar and later the trade unionist leader Ljubo Sanjakorin, who represented the district for 35 years.
However, demographic changes and deindustrialization weakened Blue Dawn’s hold. In the 2014 special election following Sanjakorin’s death, Vesna Horvatin won the seat for the CRF in a historic upset. By the 2022 election, the CRF captured both seats, marking the end of Blue Dawn’s dominance in the industrial north.
