Oscar Hantzsch was a Boskenmark politician who served as Vice President under Stefan Hartschnell and replaced him as the Civic Union presidential candidate during the 1948 Presidential Election.
The “Khaki Election” pitted the aging Civic Union against military hero Nielz Metzger. President Hartschnell died of a heart attack on 12 October 1948 during the campaign. Hantzsch took over the Civic Union ticket but was defeated by Metzger, ending the Hartschnell era and leading to the Civic Union’s dissolution within several years.
