The Sinj State Penitentiary is the Divine Republic of Kresimiria’s principal maximum-security federal prison, operated by the Council for Internal Affairs on the southern outskirts of the capital. For decades it housed inmates convicted under Iron Era penal codes that mandated long sentences for drug possession — contributing to severe overcrowding criticised by Civic Renewal Front reformers.
The Harm Reduction debate
Prior to the 2023 Harm Reduction Act, mandatory minimums filled the penitentiary with non-violent offenders while doing little to reduce addiction rates. Chancellor Kresimirovic IV’s government shifted policy toward medical intervention; opponents such as Malik Kondratiev denounced the reform as “state-sponsored hedonism.”
Notable detainees
The prison has held high-profile BRC-21 suspects, Digital Front activists, and corrupt officials from the Sanjakorin era. Transfers to district jails in Moraviskameja remain politically sensitive.
