Toni Uzela was a Kresimirian politician who served as a Senator for District VI (Viskogorje) from 1922 until 1942. A founding-era RPP legislator, he represented the mountainous west alongside Mia Colak for two decades before retiring at the 1942 election.
Background
Uzela was born in Lipovljana, a garrison town in the Viskogorje highlands. He worked as a forestry surveyor and district road commissioner before the Unification War, giving him practical authority over the mountain passes that linked District VI to the central plains. His constituency prized logistical competence over oratory — a profile that matched the RPP’s early emphasis on infrastructure integration.
Senate career
In the 1922 election, Uzela won the senior District VI seat on the RPP ticket alongside Colak. While Colak became the district’s liberal voice — breaking ranks on the 1925 Standard Kresi Act and later defecting to the CRF in 1932 — Uzela remained a loyal whip for Assembly Chair Filip Novak. He voted consistently for centralist economic legislation, including republic-wide rail standardization and garrison funding for the University of Dubica-Viskogorje military faculty.
Uzela supported the 1933 National Security Act after the 1931 Vijrje Anniversary Attack, aligning with the security hawks who viewed mountain districts as front-line territory against Bosken infiltration. He never followed Colak into the CRF, and the personal split between the two co-senators came to define District VI’s politics for a generation.
By 1942, with Chancellor Kresimirovic II consolidating executive power through the Chancellor’s Authority Act, Uzela declined to seek re-election. He retired to Lipovljana and died in 1945, leaving the RPP seat to be contested by the nationalist Vjetrusa wing that would later elevate General Dominik Loncar.
