Goran Iric is a Kresimirian politician and member of the Iric political dynasty, who served as Mayor of Bistrica from 1964–1978 during the early Northern Power era.
Mayoralty (1964–1978)
Iric won the first mayoral election held after the formal merger of the old Bistrice People’s Party (BPP) into the Northern Power coalition in 1963. Representing the dynastic continuity of the northern regionalist movement, he defeated a Blue Dawn “modernizer” candidate whom voters rejected as a puppet of the capital.
As mayor through the late Brov era, Iric expanded municipal timber contracts, defended northern tax exemptions enacted under Pavel Iric’s Senate bargaining, and kept Bistrica’s NP organization unified while federal Blue Dawn slowly liberalized labour policy.
By the late 1970s, Northern Power recognized it needed a populist enforcer to hold Bistrica against Sinj’s centralizing ambitions and formally backed Gabriel Ekdahl as his successor — the union boss who would dominate northern labour politics for the next two decades. Iric stepped down after 1978, clearing the way for Ekdahl’s election.
