1979 Kruhlstutt General Election

The 1979 Kruhlstutt General Election was held in 1979 at the end of Prime Minister Tillmann Jurgens’s first term. Jurgens had governed since the 1974 KU–RF–AL coalition victory, subsidising heavy industry and maintaining open trade with Kresimiria as state steel output peaked. The Sovereign Workers’ League (SWL) under Elias Aigner won the most seats but fell short of a majority; Jurgens retained the premiership through a new coalition with The Liberals and the Admiration List.

The campaign focused on macroeconomic stability, industrial subsidy levels, and the cost of naval remilitarisation on Lake Vokavovic. Banker Maximilien Roth entered the Royal Diet at the head of a new Liberal list that appealed to middle-income Creuzholz voters who opposed SWL labour militancy but rejected KU social conservatism. Opposition newspapers reported political purges in Sinj; Jurgens’s government did not alter cross-border coal and steel flows at Cetingrad.

Parties

• Sovereign Workers’ League (SWL) — Leader: Elias Aigner. Aigner succeeded Tobias Brandt as party leader ahead of the election. The SWL gained five seats on 39.0% of the vote, campaigning against wage freezes and KU industrial subsidies, but could not assemble a governing majority without the Riverine Front, which remained in opposition.
• Kruhlstutter Union (KU) — Leader: Tillmann Jurgens. The incumbent party lost fifteen seats as some urban voters moved to the Liberals. Jurgens campaigned on continued heavy-industry subsidy and frictionless Voka trade with Kresimiria under Chairman Ante Brov.
• The Liberals — Leader: Maximilien Roth. Roth founded the party in 1978 and won fifteen seats on its first contest. Liberal materials emphasised semiconductor and logistics deregulation over KU naval shipyard spending and SWL union protections. Roth’s seats proved decisive for Jurgens’s second-term arithmetic.
• The Admiration List (AL) — Leader: Lord Admiral Otto Teichmüller. The party lost five seats but remained in coalition. Teichmüller demanded expanded brown-water patrols on Lake Vokavovic; Jurgens authorised remilitarisation spending that drew publicised standoffs with Kresimirian border authorities during the 1979–1984 term.
• Riverine Front (RF) — Leader: Luka Mornar. The regional list held twenty seats on a stable vote share. Mornar did not rejoin Jurgens’s bloc after the 1974–1979 arrangement, leaving the RF on the opposition benches.
