Novija Wakovic is a retired Kresimirian politician who served as a Senator for District VII (Ravna Skrad) from 1992–2002. A member of the Civic Renewal Front (CRF), she was first elected in the 1992 election alongside the party’s long-time leader Mia Marija Pavlovic, capturing the breadbasket district during the national realignment that tied Blue Dawn at six seats.
Tenure (1992–2002)
Wakovic represented Ravna Skrad’s agricultural liberals at a moment when National Grain Trust formation and Ljubo Sanjakorin’s statist food-security agenda were reshaping District VII. She voted Against the 1993 Public Office Eligibility Act during the 1993 Moraviski Crisis, aligning with Pavlovic’s caucus on civil-liberties grounds while opposing Blue Dawn’s nationalist turn.
Throughout the 1990s, Wakovic championed cooperative farmers’ access to export markets and criticised Maj Agro-Trade dominance, though she lacked Pavlovic’s national profile. She supported RSZU research independence from NGT political appointees and opposed price-fixing disputes that periodically blocked Republic Rail grain shipments during harvest season.
Defeat and later life
Wakovic lost her seat in the 2002 election to Zoran Pesic of Blue Dawn, part of the establishment’s recovery in the bellwether district after Pavlovic’s retirement. She did not return to the Assembly and has since lived quietly in Ravna Skrad.
