Kresimiria Vlade Koci

Vlade Koci

Vlade Koci was a Kresimirian politician who served as the Senator for District VII (Ravna Skrad) from 1922 to 1942. Originally elected under the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP), he defected to the Civic Renewal Front (CRF) in 1932 alongside Eward Matek, Touko Lapic, and Mia Colak, and completed his remaining term as a liberal opposition senator.

Early career

Koci was born in Ravna Skrad and worked as a grain-exchange broker before entering politics. In the 1922 election he won the district’s junior RPP seat alongside the nationalist Matej Marij Mihaljevic, who would later join Kresimir Basic in the 1924 Schism. Koci’s commercial background made him a reliable vote for Filip Novak’s tariff and rail legislation, but he chafed at the RPP’s cultural centralism — particularly attempts to impose Sinj dialect standards on western traders.

CRF defection and remaining term

By January 1932, disillusioned by the authoritarian drift following the 1931 Vijrje Anniversary Attack, Koci joined Matek’s formal break from the RPP to establish the CRF. The split cost the RPP its absolute majority for the first time. In the 1932 election Koci was re-elected under the CRF banner, serving as a district lieutenant to Matek while Mihaljevic held the SoK seat across the aisle.

For the next decade Koci voted with the liberal bloc against the 1933 National Security Act and the creeping executive power of Chancellor Kresimirovic I and Kresimirovic II. When the Chancellor’s Authority Act vested veto power in the executive, Koci — like Matek’s other early allies — declined to seek re-election in 1942, ending his twenty-year tenure.

He retired to Ravna Skrad and died in 1961, one year before the post-treaty realignment that would reshape District VII under Blue Dawn.
