Zvonimir Bran is a Kresimirian politician who served as Mayor of Polograd for seventeen years (1968–1985) on the Sons of Kresimir (SoK) ticket. His long tenure opened the “Bran Era” of fortress conservatism in District III (Pologradska), when SoK-aligned municipal and federal offices moved in lockstep against Blue Dawn social reform.
Mayoralty (1968–1985)
Bran was installed after Senator Tihomir Bran consolidated SoK control of District III in 1962 and engineered the ouster of Polograd’s corporate Vjetrusa government. The 1968 election gave Zvonimir Bran a decisive mandate to treat the Old City as a moral fortress: strict public-order codes, SoK youth patronage, and resistance to the cultural liberalisation spreading from Sinj.
For nearly two decades the Bran surname dominated Pologradska politics alongside Tihomir Bran’s Senate seat and, later, mayors such as Budimir Gavranovic and the current officeholder Ivan Bran. Contemporary accounts describe a cohesive SoK Bran political clan in the district; exact kinship between Zvonimir, Tihomir, and Ivan is not consistently documented beyond shared family name and patronage network.
Bran stepped down in 1985 in favour of Gavranovic, who negotiated the subsequent SoK–Vjetrusa alliance that allowed Maj Holdings to build the modern business district south of the walls.
