The 1959 special elections were held respectively in Severnivaraje (IV) after the incumbent independent Sara Unalina retired, and Kakerovecska (II) after the Blue Dawn founder and leader Luka Matar died suddenly of a cerebrovascular attack (a stroke).
This resulted in the 1959 Blue Dawn Leadership Election, which was won by Leon Rukavin, an event largely viewed as a pivotal turning point in the history of the Republic, as it likely led to the 1961 Peace Treaty of Brod Moravice.
